New Delhi: A sedentary lifestyle is one of the biggest causes of the rising problem of obesity in the country. This in turn, is giving rise to excessive health problems due to weight gain.
Wikipedia very aptly defines a sedentary lifestyle as “A sedentary lifestyle is a type of lifestyle with no or irregular physical activity. A person who lives a sedentary lifestyle may colloquially be known as a slob or couch potato.”
Sedentary activities include the likes of sitting, lying down, watching television, reading, playing video games, excessive computer use for long hours without getting up or doing any kind of physical activity.
Nowadays, however, many people are becoming increasingly conscious about their bodies and many can also be seen wearing fitness trackers on their wrists.
Fitbit, which is a fitness brand of full-featured pedometers and fitness band activity monitors that track steps, distance, and calories, noticed that and decided to indulge in some research to see who sits the most and when. They studied over a million fitness tracker users to come up with the data.
Needless to say, the results (listed below) were enlightening. Have a look and check what time of the day you are the most sedentary in!
1. Afternoon from 2 pm - 3 pm
2. After-coffee/before lunch - prime work/meeting time of 10:30 - 11 am
3. After work and after dinner, specifically from 7:30-8:30 pm.
These are the worst times of day for being sedentary!
