Provide your staff with a stress-free environment

All work settings can certainly have their stressful moments and the health care industry is no exception. Waiting rooms can get noisy, patients can become irritated and technology can give us fits. While there is no real cure for preventing chaos or the stress that goes along with it, helping to create a comfortable office environment can allow both physicians and staff members to combat hectic situations.
Take a look at these few tips that can help make your office a less stressful place.
Stay organized
Cluttered desks and messy files can only create more work and add to everyone’s stress level. Both doctors and staff should make sure file contents are organized and arranged in the appropriate order. Managing areas of high traffic, such as desks or patient check-in areas, can allow for quick and easy access to necessary paperwork, removing the hassle of rummaging through piles of forms.
Bring plants and their benefits into the office
Believe it or not, plants are actually known to improve your mental and physical states to help create a more calming environment. According to Sherry Burton Ways, author of Feel Good Spaces: A Guide to Decorating Your Home for Body, Mind and Spirit, “Integrating plants in the work environment not only beautifies the environment but has been proven to reduce absenteeism, reduce stress, lower blood pressure, increase positive feelings, lower noise levels, decrease room temperature and lower humidity.”*
Remember to communicate
Anything from employment changes to schedules to the use of new software, it is always important to keep staff in the loop about everything going on in the office. Make sure your staff is aware of changes that are going to occur before they happen (when it is possible) and answer questions to help deliver a peace of mind. This will help the team be better prepared for new tasks or when answering questions from patients.
Allow for quiet time
When the work day is hectic, it’s important to remember to give your staff members a quick 15 to 20 minute break. Allow them to set aside some time each day to get away from the desk and have the chance to clear their head. This can help increase productivity and improve moods among the whole office.
